Nice to meet you

Who are we?

Coen

Skipper

Ahoy there! I’m Coen, the fellow these landlubbers aboard this vessel occasionally dub as their captain. More often, it’s just a casual “Hey you, pass me those carrots will you?”  You might have heard my voice in our Sailing Adventurers podcast, or perhaps you’ve delved into one of my blog posts. Here on this website, we’ll share our seafaring tale and offer you a glimpse into the life of sailing around the world – with friends.

A bit more about me: After spending much of my childhood in the company of sailboats, I’d forgotten about sailing for a while. That was until my wife (Femke) and I moved to Australia. Here I fell in love with the boats and the ocean again. We bought a boat together, and almost sank it, twice. But it allowed us to travel to uninhabited islands, and explore pristine waters.

This experience sparked a yearning to set course towards the most remote places on the planet. Here I want to catch our dinner, take underwater pictures of unimaginable creatures and immerse myself in various cultures. And that’s precisely what we’ll attempt to do.

So, if you’re curious about the ins and outs of a journey like ours, feel free to explore this digital port. If you have any questions, or you’d like to leave us a message, we’d love to hear from you!

“I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that” – Pippi Longstocking

I couldn’t agree more with the quote above, as I actually don’t have much sailing experience, apart from sailing in the Whitsundays (Australia) and at the Waddensea (Netherlands).

But before I forget, let me introduce myself. My name is Femke, I’m 28 years old and I love turtles and palm trees! Lucky me, because we will see plenty of those along the way 😊

Furthermore, I like to go to off the beaten track adventures and love hiking in remote areas. One of my favorite trips was hiking part of the Te Aroa, a hiking trail that goes from the most northern part of New Zealand, Cape Reigna, to the most southern part of New Zealand, Bluff. Coen and I hiked for about five weeks of the trail on the southern Island until he got a foot injury, finishing the entire trail is still high on my bucket list.

Now we’ll take off to go sailing around the world. Follow our social media channels, to become part of the adventure!

Trine

Deck-Tanner

I’m Trine, an outdoor guide with a bachelor in Lobsters! I’ll be telling the boys to stop catching undersized fish in order to maintain a proper balance in the marine ecosystem and to not disturb the food chain or the nutrient cycle. Just kidding – but I will probably throw one of them overboard if they catch a berried crayfish!

I don’t have too much sailing experience besides sinking a boat in a January storm in the Mediterranean and sailing around the Caribbean for 5 months, but I love the boat life! Exploring beautiful beaches and bays, tanning on the deck, and hiking the highest mountain/volcano on each island we’re going to is something that I look very much forward to. My boots are made for walking – so that’s just what they’ll do!

I’m going to be the Minister of Food on our trip since I love cooking! I can’t wait to explore new dishes and using local roots, fruits, and veggies to include in the kitchen – nobody is going to starve on Eva, my challenge is to get Coen, Femke, and Rasmus to gain some kilos on the boat 😉

Most of all I’m looking forward to take a step back, and let time run slowly and enjoy a simple lifestyle but with heaps of adventures and stary nights. See ya out there!

Rasmus

First Mate and Naturist

The hardest part of an adventure is deciding to go – the rest we’ll figure out along the way. It’s a mantra I’ve always lived by, so of course Trine and I could not miss out on this adventure!

Sailing around the world has been a lifelong dream of mine, since it merges my passion for the ocean, vibrant colors and incredible diversity of life, my passion for exploring the (to me) unknown, and sailing. I was never born into a sailing family, and I’m indeed a very autodidact sailor, whose focus is not on breaking any speed records, but rather letting the sails guiding me closer to nature and enhance my senses and feeling of presence.

I’ll be the weatherman and in charge of first aid on the boat, so nobody’s allowed to get the boom on their head on my watch! Also, I’ll probably be the Minister of Fishing and Diving alongside Coen on the boat.

A bit about myself: I’m a 27-year-old space engineer and former football player. If I were to describe myself in one word, that would be curiosity! This intrinsic trait has led me around the world to natural wonders, strange situations, and beautiful people. In a world of chaos, it’s always a blessing to discover that people are friendlier than you think, with more than 99% wishing you and others the best. My curiosity also drives me to understand how things work and to get my hands on machinery. Therefore, I secretly hope that a few things break down on the boat so I can fix them again (don’t tell Coen).

I’ll be taking heaps of photos both in the water, on land, and from the air on our trip—hoping to inspire some of you to join us out here and meet us!
